Grand Rapids, MI: A lady who was at the center of a significant Grand Rapids police department debate three years ago has passed away after a two-week battle with coronavirus. A member of the family has validated, according to mlive.

Honestie Hodges, 14, evaluated positively for COVID-19 on Nov. 9, according to a GoFundMe web page created by her granny, Alisa Niemeyer.

” It is with a very broken heart that I have to tell all of you that my stunning, sassy, smart loving Granddaughter has gone home to be with Jesus,” Niemeyer wrote in an upgrade Sunday, Nov. 22.

Niemeyer declined to comment on her granddaughter’s death when called by phone Sunday but asked for her family’s prayers.

Hodges’ mom, Whitney Hodges, did not react to any ask for comment by MLive.

In December 2017, an 11-year-old Honestie was handcuffed at gunpoint by Grand Rapids police department and placed in a cruiser as they searched for a suspect in a tried murder. Hodges, her mommy, and an additional family member were leaving their Grand Rapids house when they experienced police trying to find one of their relatives in a stabbing.

Her short detainment resulted in written policy changes in how Grand Rapids police interact with children at scenes. The modifications were referred to as the “Honestie plan.”

According to the GoFundMe web page, Honestie went to DeVos Kid’s Medical facility on Nov. 9 and examined positive for COVID-19.

She was sent out home but later became a lot more sick on the same day. She went back to the healthcare facility in an ambulance.

The grandma, in subsequent written updates, stated Honestie was positioned on a ventilator on Nov. 14. In a Nov. 18 upgrade, Niemeyer created that her granddaughter’s condition had intensified and asked for prayers.

The GoFundMe page was established to aid Whitney Hodges’s spend on necessities, such as food for her other children and gas, Niemeyer created. Honestie’s mother has been at the healthcare facility and unable to function given that Honestie was admitted.
