The Service de protection contre l’incendie de Québec (SPCIQ) is fighting a fifth-alarm fire in incendie saint-Sauveur and trying to prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
At 12:40 p.m., the SPCIQ received a call concerning flames and smoke coming out of the attic of the second floor of 553 Saint-Bonaventure Street in the Saint-Sauveur neighborhood. Once on the scene, firefighters observed flames and smoke coming from the roof and the cornice.
They then proceeded to evacuate the two-story residential building containing two dwellings, as well as the residents of the adjacent building. More than 80 firefighters are now on site. The Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) is also present to control traffic in the area where several streets have been closed.
For its part, Hydro-Québec has carried out a remote load shedding operation that has resulted in several residences in the area being without power. The SPCIQ indicates that the risk of aggravation is still present.
